Nothing compares to the laziness, stupidity and dullness of many German violinists. Every fortnight another one comes to me wanting to play the first concerto. I have now become rude, and have told them: ‘I cannot listen to this concerto any more. Did I perhaps write just this one? Go away and once and for all play the other concertos, which are just as good, if not better.

Max Bruch

Max Bruch (Max Karl August Bruch) was born in January 6, 1830 in Cologne Germany. He is a composer in the Romantic Era. His greatest successes in his own lifetime were his massive works for Choir and Orchestra, such as Odysseus (1872). He composed some concert works for example, Scottish Fantasy for Violin and Orchestra. (1880), The Kol Nidrei for Cello and Orchestra (1881), and his most remarkable composition, in my opinion, his Violin Concerto No.1 in G minor (1868).

Violin Concerto No.1 in G minor

Violin Concerto No.1 in G minor was first completed in 1866 and the first performance was on April 24, 1866 by  Otto von Königslow with Bruch conducting. Then considerably revised with help from celebrate violinist Joseph Joachim and completed in its present form in 1867. The premiere of the revised concerto was given by Joachim on January 5, 1868

Violin Concerto No.1 and Repetition

The quote at the top of the page shows the annoyance of Bruch at the popularity of his first violin concerto. The piece is very famous from the past until now and he heard it over and over. But for me even if I heard a lot of performances on this piece it's still interesting to me. In each performance, the interpretation is never the same. It changes depending on the environment or the musician's experience.

Analysis

I did some analysis to see how musical ideas are repeated in the piece. Here is one example.

At the beginning of Bruch Violin Concerto, I marked it as, "Theme A". And Theme A was repeated in a different rhythm or changes something, for example, add more notes or change the key.

This theme was repeated three times in the first movement

The notes are not exactly the same but the contour or the shape are going in the same way in each repeating. This is some idea from the piece.

This painting begins with an empty canvas which is fulfilled by the idea of listening and transform the sound and the moods into colors. In each movement has a different mood and color so we interpret the sound through the perspective of the painter. The repetition appears
